Rodent Control — Built for Roof Rat Country

Scratching in the ceiling at 2am, chewed citrus on the tree, droppings on the water heater — the Valley's rodent is the roof rat, it lives above your head, and poison alone makes the problem smell worse, not go away.

Why the Valley grows roof rats

Roof rats are climbers — palm trees, fence lines, utility drops, and the oak that touches your eaves are their highways. The RGV feeds them exceptionally well: backyard citrus (a hollowed-out orange still hanging on the tree is their calling card), ripening fruit on Mexican olive and anacua trees, pet food on the patio, and warm attics all winter (such as it is). McAllen's older neighborhoods with mature canopy see the heaviest pressure, but any home with a palm within jumping distance of the roofline qualifies.

Roof rats are climbers — citrus limbs and utility lines are their highways to your attic.

The three-part job (and why skipping part three fails)

  • 1 — Inspection: we find the entry points — gaps at the roofline, unscreened weep holes and vents, AC chase penetrations, garage door corners. Roof rats need barely a quarter-size hole.
  • 2 — Trapping & removal: snap traps placed on their actual runways in the attic, checked and cleared on a schedule. Indoors we trap rather than bait — a poisoned rat dying in a wall cavity is a problem you'll smell for weeks.
  • 3 — Exclusion: sealing every entry with rodent-proof materials. This is the part that makes it permanent, and the part cut-rate services skip so the calls keep coming. Typical full jobs run $300–$900 depending on entry count; you get the itemized list in writing.

What you can do this weekend

Trim branches back a few feet from the roofline, skirt your palms if rats are running them, pick up fallen fruit, get pet food off the patio overnight, and swap the garage door's chewed corner seals. None of it replaces exclusion, but it lowers the pressure — and if you do call us afterward, the job gets smaller and cheaper. We'll tell you at the free inspection which of these actually matters for your specific house instead of handing you the generic list.

Get the attic quiet again — and keep it that way.
